We made it safely home from our grand adventure. The launch was spectacular! We cheered as the Space Shuttle Endeavour blasted off into space. Okay, I also cried and prayed as they ascended into the heavens, but it was such an emotional, awesome thing to see! Wow, what a show! I'm so glad to know that they have all made it home safely from their amazing journey. Thank you for your patience as I traveled across the country with the children visiting family and friends. I feel that I must apologize to the nation for the snow that I either pushed ahead of me or dragged behind me all along the way. Even Florida got snow just after we were there. I guess Colorado wanted to come along with us on the trip. I had been hoping for WARM weather, but at least we had warm fellowship! Much better of the two if I had to pick.

I just wanted to let you know that we are home now and back on track fulfilling orders. If you have not heard from me yet, please let me know as I may have missed you in the shuffle. I think I have covered everyone, but would hate to have missed someone.

We're looking forward to Spring and some new items in the store soon. If you have any suggestions for the store, please let me know. We're always open to new ideas!

To Boldly Go...

We're heading to Florida for the launch of STS-130, which is scheduled for Feb 7th. We've been invited to the launch by our friend, Terry Virts, who is the pilot on this mission (second from the left). Of course, we won't get to see Terry in person, but we will get to fellowship with his wife and children. We look forward to that. So, the kids and I are loading up the van and going on a grand adventure. It's so nice having a son who is a man and can help drive and keep all of us safe! Thankfully, my beloved will join us for the launch and a few days of soaking in the warm sun in Florida. Along the way, we get to visit with friends and family. Ah, a vacation in February to sunny Florida. Great timing!

So, if you place an order and I don't get back to you right away, this is why. I should have internet access daily, so I will try to email you to let you know when to expect your order. Thanks for understanding. I promise to get right to it when we get home again.

And, if you happen to watch the launch, or see the headlines about it, please say a prayer for Terry and the rest of the crew. What a wonderfully amazing adventure they are going on! Viewing God's earth from that vantage point must be incredible! And, if you think about it, say a prayer for me: 1 van, 6 children, 3000 miles. I hope it doesn't snow.

I am so excited! I have a whole new line of colors available to you. I spoke with the company who makes the vinyl I use for my lettering. I explained the ever growing market for matte vinyl in home interior designing. And they listened! I think they have come out with pretty much every color I asked for. I'm so impressed with Oracal for listening to this need and acting on it in such a timely manner. I'm going to have to re-name some of my colors to fit the new ones. But, for now make sure you use the number and name of the color when ordering. So, without further delay, here they are:

I'd like to introduce you to Jill. She has an adorable blog which features her beautiful family. They gave up the city life for the country. I met Jill when she ordered some wall lettering for her gorgeous home.

Don't you just love her ceilings? She chose copper for this design.

See the gorgeous ceilings peeking through again? Love. Them. I think the lettering adds such a great touch to her already beautiful home. Don't you?

Old meets new

I have a new font, and I thought you might love it as much as I do. There are so many possibilities with this font!

You could make an establishment sign for your family or as a wedding/anniversary gift. Just paint a board the color of your choice, apply the letters as you would on your wall, and you're done! Very easy!

It even comes in reverse:

Creative Clients

It has been an extremely busy season in my life. We've traveled to England, enjoyed a wonderfully large amount of visitors in our home, finished up school for the year, and played games with the children. Summer is here, and life has been so full! God is good.

I've had some clients send me photos of their finished projects, and I have wanted to share them with you. I'm sure you will be inspired by their ideas!

Blair and Brandon welcomed a new son into their family. To personalize his nursery, she put his monogram on a piece of framed glass with the meaning of his name overlayed. She used baby blue for the monogram and chocolate chip for the meaning.

Barb found some signs that say, "HOME" and wanted to personalize them. We added "is where your story begins" to one. Since her husband is in the AF, she wanted to make some going away gifts for her AF friends. So she added, "is where the AF sends you" to some as well. Cute idea! You can personalize a sign you already have with your own saying or name. How fun is that?

Melissa and her husband Matt have put up a beautiful verse in their home. This is the view from their front door. We added an embellishment to dress it up a bit.

Susan made some name signs for her neices and nephews with lettering that we designed together. She says that they were a big hit with the kids. Great idea for birthdays or Christmas!

And finally, I'd like to share with you an extra special project that Colleen made as a centerpiece for an event at her local children's hospital, in memory of her precious son. They spent this day with the children, making crafts that resembled the design on the tile.

It has been such a treat to see all of your finished projects. Thank you so much for sharing your pictures with me. If you have any photos you'd like to share, please send them to me.

I am just astonished. March is halfway over! It's been busy here at Fruitful Vine Creations. I thought I would show you some of the great photos that have been sent to me by some of my clients of their FV Creations.

You might recognize the design above from my kitchen image in my gallery. Gail over at The Tattered Nest liked the image, so we made it a little smaller to fit her space. I think it looks so great.

Erin sent me this photo of her bedroom. Isn't her bed gorgeous? She wanted to make her room extra special as a surprise for her beloved husband. Don't you just love monograms? I love how they can be very formal or playful or masculine, or really whatever you want them to be.

Milah also had a really neat idea. Her husband's family settled their farm way back in 1819, so she honored them with her wall lettering.

And, we've also gone all the way across the pond...the big pond...to England. Liz has a song that is special to her and her sweetie. So, she had the words put in vinyl for her guest room. Isn't it stunning? You can see more of Liz and her beautiful home over at This Young House.

I just cannot express how impressed I am with all of your creativity! I have enjoyed so much working with my clients, helping them create the design they have thought about, planned, or even just had a whim about. As much fun as it is to design your works of art for you, it is even more rewarding to see the end result! I have so many more photos to show you. But, this will have to do for today. You can pick anything you want. I do all custom work, so you don't have to only select things from what you see on the site. That is only your launching pad to the endless world of vinyl designs. I hope that I have given you some inspiration. I am so enjoying reading your great ideas. Change can be good

Did you see my new button on the side there, blinking away in all its glory? It's a tiny hint of the changes that are coming to Fruitful Vine Creations. (Kind of like getting a new outfit to go with the new shoes!) I'm spreading my wings a bit, working on some new ideas. I know this current blog look isn't too old yet, but I think it needs a facelift. Be sure to check back soon to see the new updated look. But please don't think you've landed in the wrong spot when you show up and I've changed the decor. (I don't know how to make that little accent mark over the "o", but you know what I mean.)If you'd like my blinky button on your blog, you can copy the html code and take it over to your blog. Let me know if you've done that. I plan on adding a new feature to my updated blog which links back to the blogs that have my button. Just spreadin' the love. I'd really appreciate your help in letting people know about my business.

We had a little contest

The Nester and I were chatting a couple of months ago. We decided together that it would be fun to give away some lettering to one of her readers. So, she had a little giveaway last month. 462 birds entered the contest. I know. It was so much fun reading their comments, hearing their ideas, sharing their enthusiasm about putting words on their walls. Some wanted to put words in their children's rooms, others in their kitchen and laundry rooms. Some wanted to organize their drawers and glass bottles with labels. Still others wanted to put a welcome at their entryway or their name just outside their door. Such beautiful ideas. Then, there were ideas that made me laugh: good kids and bad kids sit here (and there), "CLEAN UP" in a child's room, and my personal fav--Open your pie hole (in French or Italian so that it sounds better) for a kitchen. I really nearly choked on my bagel when I read that. Too funny. Why don't I ever think of funny things like that? If you come over to my house (those who know me of course), and you see something in a foreign language, you just might want to ask me what it means. I might be feeling a bit silly one day and quote it in French (not that I *know* French!).

But, I wanted to share that we did have a winner! Candy and I worked together to find just the right saying for her kitchen. She put them up quickly and sent me a the link to her blog. She sounds pretty happy with her prize. And, I think they look great in her kitchen! Congratulations, Candy! And, thank you, Nester, for the contest. And, happy birthday to you today!

Computers, computers...

It has come to my attention that the order form page is not working properly. I have received a few emails letting me know that I have orders, but I am not receiving the orders. If you have filled out an order form and I have not contacted you, please shoot me an email to let me know. You should have gotten an email saying that the order was not submitted, but you know how computers are, it may not have been sent either. If you would like to order, you can just send the info in an email to me. My son, er, webmaster, is looking into the problem and should have it fixed soon. I have great confidence in him. I pay him well.

I'll let you in on a little secret

I have a hidden page on my website. It's for clients who have asked me to design lettering for them. It's a place they can come to see if they like what I have done, or want something different. Funny thing though. When they go there, many are intrigued by what I have done for others there. Often, I redesign images to be similar to something I have done for someone else. I think most of us like to see other ideas to help us know what we want. Visualization is not something everyone is gifted with. So, I thought I'd share my secret link with you so you can see if something sparks your interest or gives you a start to a new idea for your home. By the way, everything there is available for sale if you see something you want. Shhhh....don't tell anyone. Oh, and check back often because this page changes almost daily!

Need a gift idea?

I know Christmas is coming, and many of us are trying to find gift ideas that are personal, special, and affordable. Well, I have an idea for you.

You can put this on a tile, a board, the glass of a frame, an old window, or just give the lettering so that they can put it on their wall. You can choose any color you want in my collection of colors. You can have the name be the same color as the background color of your initial, or you can choose a different color. The Est. (or you can pick something else to overlay) can be whatever color you want as well. I can make these any size, just let me know the size surface you want to cover, and I will give you the cost. For example, if you want to cover a 12"x12" tile, your price is $15 plus shipping. Not bad for a wonderful gift that will be remembered for years and years.

These also make wonderful wedding, anniversary, or birthday gifts as well.

What I've been up to

I've been enjoying preparing for Autumn. It's such a wonderful time of the year. The colors of fall are among my very favorite, so I am always ready to pull out the accents that announce "It's Fall!" to the rest of the house.

So, with these things in mind, I have been playing with some fonts and sayings.

What are some of your favorite Autumnal phrases? Any verses or poems that come to mind? I'd love some ideas of what you would like to see.

A simple idea

I made this for a friend.

I found a frame and some scrapbook paper (oh, the many uses of beautiful scrapbook paper!). Designed the words and applied them to the glass. I put the paper behind the glass to add a bit of dimension to the look. What would you put on the glass if you were doing this project?

A little idea for you

I thought I would share an idea with you. This project was so easy and so much fun. You will need:

scrapbook paper
paint to coordinate
wood (I bought these at Hobby Lobby)
spray adhesive

Cut your scrapbook paper to fit your wood

Then, paint the edges of your wood. You can paint the back if you want. It won't show, but it does give a nice finished look if you are giving this as a gift. Then, using your spray adhesive, attach the paper to your wood.

Now, you will need some vinyl letters from me. You can choose whatever words or font you want. I chose the word "Baby" in Pure White #7010. Of course, you can choose a name or another word (family, joy, faith, believe, etc.).

Next, cut apart the letters.

Finally, center them on your wood and apply them. You can attach ribbon to hang them, or use a sawtooth hanger on the back (for those boys).

I hope you enjoy this project. I've also done larger boards with a monogram on it. Very pretty. I'd love to hear your ideas. If you make one, I'd love to see what you did. You can link to your blog with pictures if you want.

The door, part 2

I'm sorry this is so late in coming! We went out of town, and I didn't have much internet access. So, my plans to post while away didn't happen. We did enjoy our time away though.

So, I labored over which idea would best suit my "new" old door. Did I want words all around the outer edge? Maybe. Did I want some sort of design or verse within one of the panels in the door. Hmmm. So many things to consider. In the end, I decided on keeping it simple. I chose one of my embellishments to add to the door. I chose an old fashioned key in chocolate chip for the occasion. I thought it would be a classic choice for an old door.

Did you notice the tassel on the door? Do you love it? I bought it from The Nester who is an incredibly talented woman. She makes the most gorgeous tassels. She has a little etsy shop where she sells them and you can get one of your very own. If you see one that you want, don't delay. She sells them very quickly.

So, what do you think of the door? What would you have done with it? I would love to hear your ideas. You never know, I just may change my mind and do another door idea. That's one thing I love about the vinyl. I can change my mind in a snap!

The door

So, I dragged my beloved to a little shop way on the other side of town. They were going out of business. I had never heard of this shop until I found out they were leaving. It was called Shabby Cottage or something like that. Cute name. Turns out they had some really old doors and windows they were giving away for free. I think there must be only 2 responses to this: 1. You've got to be kidding! How did I get so lucky! Seriously, is it my birthday? (that would be me) or 2. You've got to be kidding! Who wants this junk? Can we go now? (that would be beloved)

So, I picked out a door (didn't want to push it with more than one--he was already thinking I was nuts). And besides, I didn't want to be greedy. There must be others out there wanting some of the doors! This door was painted the most perfect mustard color (again 2 responses, I'm sure!). Here it is in its naked glory:

Of course, it has been crying out to me to stick some vinyl on it. Can you imagine the possibilities? Oh, I can! Stay tuned to see what I did!

My son has been working hard, trying to make the blog a bit more interesting to the eye. I'm just tickled. Isn't he great? By the way, he also is available for hire to design your website or blog. Just let me know and I will get you in contact with him. He's a hard worker, and he's so smart! (Can you tell I'm his mom?)

Well, I did say "occasional"...

I know. A blog without any new posts is pretty boring. I have the posts in my head. It's just finding time to get them from my head to my computer. My son tells me that I need to update the look of my blog. He's right. Problem is, I struggle to figure out just exactly what I want. There are so many beautiful blogs out there. It can be overwhelming. He tells me he can do whatever I want. But, I have to let him know what that is. I'm open to suggestions.

Another thing. I am planning on having a "sale of the month" starting in August. You have to come to the blog to find out what it is. I will post a picture of the image and offer it in three sizes for the sale price. Let me know if you have been eyeing a particular image from my gallery and I will consider putting it in the sale sometime soon.

Oh, yeah. I'm also working on an online catalog of ready-made images to help make your shopping easier. I know, it's so hard to decide what you want without an image to help in the decision. Also, if you have something in mind, I can design it for you and put it on my "secret" page on my website for your preview before ordering. Once there, you will be able to see what else I'm working on for other clients. Pretty fun.

Fonts

Before I got into the word business, I had no idea that there were people out there who collect fonts. I had the basic fonts that came on my computer. I was even savvy enough to actually change fonts on occasion, rather than use the default font. I know, not real savvy. But, once I started creating word art for my walls, I wanted more than the standard Arial or Times New Roman. Even Lucida Casual was a bit bland for what I was envisioning. So I googled fonts. Yeowie. Have you ever done that before? And, did you know that you can pay a ton of money for one font?? Now, the people who design fonts need to make a living, so I don't begrudge them at all. It's just that *I* don't really want to spend a load of cash for a font. But, there are people who do. I did stumble across a great website for free fonts in my search. It's called Dafont. They have fonts for every occasion. So, although I have some fonts listed on my website, if you find a free one on Dafont which is vinyl-compatible, we can use it for your order. Just let me know!

Why blog?

I have been resisting blogging for quite some time now. My son has been encouraging me to set up a blog, so here I go. I don't expect that I will blog very often, but I wanted a place to share ideas, sales, random thoughts and the sort. Also, perhaps it will help those of you who don't know me personally to get more a feel for who I am. On that note, here I am and here we go! I hope you enjoy.

Oh, one more thing: if you have any ideas you'd like to share, please do! I love to hear about the creativity of others. That's where I get my best ideas!
